It won’t have escaped your notice that Mike Tyson has his own coffee shop in Amsterdam. Two weeks ago he was even there in person but the Terp Inspectors preferred to choose a quiet moment to taste the boxing legend’s weed. In short: get ready for Apple Fritter from Tyson 2.0.
We are once again in Amsterdam for this time’s review, visiting the new Tyson 2.0 coffee shop. This coffee shop has received a lot of media attention lately, as the boxing hero came to visit his coffee shop in person. We did not attend this event ourselves, but now picked a quieter time to see if Mike also provided good weed.
Dutch Apple Fritter
We look at a number of strains and we immediately notice that the buds look beautiful. Big buds, neatly cut and no little popcorn-buds in the container. We rarely see this in coffee shops. We look at and smell three different strains; all three look great but one stands out in terms of smell: the Apple Fritter.
For a reasonable price we buy a few grams of this to taste. This Apple Fritter falls under the category ‘Dutch Weed’. We find the category ‘Cali Weed’ usually not worth the €30,- per gram. A good Cali strain but grown in Holland, is in most cases better than imported weed from Cali or anywhere else.
Rock hard buds
The bud weed looks beautiful, is very compact and very well cut. We can see different shades of green, bits of purple and bright orange pistils. We notice that even the outside is still covered with intact trichomes. This bud has been carefully handled, and of course we really like to see that.
It almost looks like we got too little, but appearances can be deceiving. In fact, these buds are hard as rocks. We break open one bud and it even sticks together from the trichomes, which of course is very promising for our tasting session.
On the inside of the cracked open bud, we see many more intact trichomes, and even with the naked eye. With a microscope and a good close-up photo, this becomes even clearer. We see that many of the trichomes are already colored amber. There are also many cloudy trichomes and here and there a clear one present. We expect high potency from this strain.
Sour Apple x Animal Cookies
The aroma of the bud is intense, complex and quite unique, but that’s directly why we chose this weed for the review. We smell a nice sour aroma; it reminds us a bit of an unripe apple, fresh, sour and very fruity. A fruity aroma with cannabis often goes towards the tropical or lemon side but it is completely different with this bud.
Apple Fritter is a cross between Sour Apple and Animal Cookies. And of these parents, we think this weed is most similar to the Sour Apple. The buds smell fresh but are definitely well-cured, the perfect middle ground. No musty smell or grass/hay smell in sight.
And the taste?
While vaping, we immediately notice that the taste matches the smell well. Unfortunately, we do not taste the flavor as strongly as we smell it, and the flavor does not linger as long.
In the background we slightly taste a sour apple flavor. Very nice but unfortunately it does not match the intensity of the aroma. The taste is nice but we expected just a little more of it. Unfortunately it sometimes happens that you have a nice bud that smells very nice but the taste is a bit disappointing.
After this we made a nice joint and smoked it together. Unfortunately the taste was not as strong as the smell.
While smoking we noticed halfway through the joint that the effect was not so bad. However, almost at the end of the joint we look at each other again, and laughingly admit that we are pretty stoned after all. When the effect of a joint comes on later, it is also called a creeper effect. It’s mainly an indica feeling, a very relaxed body stone, and our thoughts also go a lot slower. Lovely to relax with after a long day.
